A Low-Profile Dual-Band Dual-Polarized Quasi-Endfire Phased Array for mmWave 5G Smartphones

This paper presents a very low-profile ( $0.105\lambda _{0}$ at 28 GHz) dual-band dual-polarized millimeter-wave phased array for 5G smartphones. The element is based on two distinct antennas to realize orthogonal linear polarizations. A planar folded dipole with parasitic strip used produce horizontally polarized radiation, and novel hexagonal bridge antenna devised generate vertically radiation while maintaining low profile. prototype of notation="LaTeX">$1\times 4$ designed implemented multilayer laminate using standard printed circuit board process. real estate the kept within notation="LaTeX">$6.5\,\, \mathrm {mm}\times 23\,\, 1.12\,\, {mm}$ . For both polarizations, −10 dB bandwidth covers 25.4–30.84 GHz 38–40 peak gains 11.31 11.93 dBi center frequencies, respectively. overlapped 3 scan ranges between polarizations are ±45° ±39° 39 GHz. work considers number important design challenges implementing low-cost mmWave in smartphones, providing practical solution mobile devices.
